QKStudio was selected as a finalist for the 2015 Sadosky Awards for the “San Miguel Interactiva” app in the IT solution category. This award recognizes the best initiatives in Argentina’s tech industry.
Available for Android and iOS, this app has already passed 3,400 downloads and is organized into three main modules containing a range of services and features: DO, CONNECT and DISCOVER.
The mobile app of the Municipality of San Miguel was developed from an “Open Government” perspective, with the goal of bringing together and promoting the range of available public services.
It brings together more than 20 services, available to citizens 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It is the only app with this many integrated services in a municipality in Argentina.
The app was planned in two phases, with a planned total net development time of 120 working days; 130 working days were actually used. We worked with 3 teams: one for iOS, one for Android and one to develop the services from the website.
The app also poses a communication challenge, since a modernized government is naturally more transparent and open, and this requires officials to be more efficient.
The main goal of San Miguel Interactiva is to bring the municipality closer to its residents, letting users file complaints, report traffic violations and access useful information about transportation, bars, shows, administrative procedures and much more.

A tour of the app
In a municipality where more people have 3G or 4G phones than have an internet connection at home, bringing the municipality closer through these devices became a necessity.
The app improves interaction with residents, meets their needs and paves the way toward “Digital Citizenship,” pursuing the transparency, collaboration and citizen participation that an “Open Government” aims for.
Before its launch, the app was presented at the 2nd Argentine Symposium on Technology and Society (STS 2015), as part of the 44th Argentine Informatics Conference (JAIIO), and was very well received.
The international organization apps4citizens gave the app a score of 8.8, rating it one of the best in its category, highlighting its content and functionality, as well as its design, usability and interface.
The implementation of the Claims Management System, which is a small part of the app, also won the National E-Government Award (JAIIO 2014) for the “Claims Management System” and received the 2nd Provincial Award for Innovation in Public Management, granted by the Provincial Undersecretariat for State Modernization.
The app currently has an average user rating of 4.4 (out of 5) on the Google store.
About the award
The Sadosky Award for Argentine Intelligence was established in 2005 by the Argentine Chamber of Software and IT Services Companies (CESSI), with the support of the Sadosky Foundation, as a nonprofit sociocultural initiative. Its purpose is to showcase the industry’s best talent to the public and to reward the people, teams and organizations whose work and performance contribute to the growth of the Argentine information technology industry in any of its dimensions.
In recent years, Argentina has seen significant, sustained growth in its software and IT services sector, as reported by numerous national and international media outlets, which highlight not only the competitiveness of its production costs but also the quality of its human resources, its installed capacity and the wide availability of technology.
Given this landscape, the Chamber of Software and IT Services of the Argentine Republic (CESSI) carries out numerous initiatives to strengthen the conditions that support this growth, such as expanding the availability of qualified human resources, encouraging the formation of companies, investing in research & development and in quality, developing specific financing mechanisms and promoting exports.
In this sense, CESSI considers it necessary to reward the people, teams and organizations whose work and performance contribute to the growth of the Argentine IT industry in any of its dimensions. For this reason, its Board of Directors decided in 2005 to establish the Sadosky Awards for Argentine Intelligence, a nonprofit sociocultural initiative whose purpose is to showcase the industry’s best talent to the public.
CESSI also wishes to honor Manuel Sadosky (1914–2005), a distinguished Argentine scientist and promoter of computer science in our country, by giving this award his name.
Manuel Sadosky symbolizes the foundations on which a strong nation must be built. These foundations consist of an optimistic vision of the future, based on a strong belief in the talent of its people and their ability to organize, in order to understand the meaning of the changes happening in the world and encourage them “as far as ethics allows,” all of it supported by the education and training of Argentina’s youth.
By nature, the most important asset of our industry is its people. Our work consists mainly of applying human intelligence to technological innovation and devoting the latter to Argentina’s economic and social development.
That is why we believe that those who receive these honors have an obligation not to forget the spirit in which they are steeped, which recognizes not only the best initiatives but, ultimately, intelligence put at the service of the IT industry, to lead Argentina to the place our teachers of the past imagined and that we hope to leave as a legacy to future generations.
