The Faculty of Informatics invites developers, journalists, designers and anyone interested in creating and sharing information to bring their ideas and knowledge together at the first edition of Hacks/Hackers in La Plata.
The event, organized by the UNLP Faculty of Informatics and Faculty of Journalism, has two parts: on Tuesday, August 13, there will be talks by Mariano Blejman, Andy Tow and Andrés Snitcofsky starting at 1:30 p.m. at the Journalism building; on Wednesday, August 14, the hackathon will take place at the Faculty of Informatics, a creative marathon to design and develop new tools with an interdisciplinary team.

The goal of the event is to create a meeting point between writers of code (Hackers) and writers of current events (Hacks), to exchange information about digital tools and look at what programmers bring to areas such as handling large volumes of data, visualization and more.
The idea is to bring communication and technology together through different projects developed collaboratively. This meeting space aims to unite the two worlds. That way, hackers can explore technologies for filtering and visualizing information, and journalists who use technology can leverage it to find and tell stories.
This work takes place in meetings called hackathons. After a series of projects or tools to develop or research are proposed, the people involved hold intensive group work sessions. A hackathon is an open, collaborative lab for creation and experimentation for journalists, developers and citizens who want to redefine the future of news through innovation and technology. It is guided by the principles of the open web, free code, transparency and the public interest.
